Today you had peaches for breakfast and were pretty crabby afterward, so we didn't do our regular routine of getting cleaned up afterward. Instead, i just did one swipe across your face with a wet paper towel and picked you up.
A few hours later, I was getting you up from your nap so that we could go and see a friend of mine, Danielle, and her new house. I threw on a sweatshirt and jeans, put you in the car and we were off. When we pulled up in front of Danielle's house, she was standing outside waiting for us- ready to go out to lunch. I didn't know that was part of the plan, and since I'm not one who "dolls" herself up (or dresses you up like a gap baby) every time we leave the house... you and I were looking pretty homely. Danielle gets in the car and says, "Hey! How are you guys doing? I think that you have something on your neck..." I look in the rear view mirror and notice that I have a HUGE smear of peaches going down one side of my neck. Then I look at you, and you look like you have on an orange bib becasue I was to lazy to find a clean bib for you this morning. Not to mention that, you also have peaches up your nose, in your eye brows and on your hands.
Woops... we were a mess.
I said to Danielle with a smile, "I promise we're not usually so sloppy. Today isn't proving that right now, but I usually don't leave the house like this if I'm aware that I have peaches streaking down my face and ALL over my baby. I hope that we can still be friends." She giggled and said, "Oh, I guess so..."
We had a really great time with her... and lunch was delicious. But my lesson of the day is to remember to look in the mirror at myself before leaving the house, and to at least change your clothes if I couldn't find a clean bib earlier.
